Meet the Artist
John Feary
I grew up in West Auckland, the youngest of 6 kids to Catholic parents Brian and Janet.
From as early as I can remember, I loved drawing, trying to copy the art of Disney and Looney Tunes, and spending a long time trying to make my school books more interesting.
This developed over time to include drawing geometric and symmetrical art and painting in acrylic and oils.
In 2012 I found tattooing which changed my world. It also opened up an amazing opportunity to do what I call 'quick-win' art, which now lends itself to my painting and canvas art. Being able to get something done within a short timeframe, is what my brain enjoys.
June '24 saw a sell out pop-up shop in Ponsonby with my new series of Kiwiana Pop Art, and I can't wait to continue this series, skewing the normal view of our New Zealand icons, as well as international cartoons.
